Characters without trouble who do no bad things (have no flaws) are boring. And will take your story nowhere. So what do you do? Push your character in every way that it counts.
The underneath is where a reader connects and empathizes with your character. Although a reader may not be privy to this skeleton from the start of the story, she can sense when it’s there and will look forward to peeling back layers of the character until she gets to the truth.
Gandhi was right…fear has its use, so use it as a creative writing prompt. Look through the following fears, choose one for your character, then begin answering the questions following the fear list and let your story flow.
