  1. You’re right. More books being churned out than ever, many aren’t very well-written, and many are also repetitive for the reason you mentioned. It’s sad but that’s what’s being rewarded these days. Given that the populace is less literate, not more, it doesn’t look like this will change any time soon. That said, I will always love writing, and I bet you will, too. Glad I stumbled onto your blog.

  2. Thanks for the comment! Were you around for the great “must write serials” movement a few years ago? That was completely motivated by Amazon’s Kindle Unlimited program which at the time paid for reads independent of how many pages were read. Because of that, the goal for authors was number of downloads instead of pages read. Really short “books” with cliffhanger endings became the thing to do if you wanted to make money from your writing.

    I honestly have mixed feelings about all of it. I am a very strong believer that writers should make money for their creations and not be shamed for wanting to make money from them, but I also hate that we can become such puppets on the ends of the strings of profit.

    I think mainly we need to be aware of what we are doing, why, and keep an eye out for ways to break free when/if we can afford to…
